Ellen Gray has been a social worker for 27 years. She earned her MSW and her Ph.D. in research and clinical work at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She has taught at Columbia, Fordham and Loyola Schools of Social Work, and Allegheny College. She is the author of over 27 national and international professional presentations, has consulted for 16 national organizations including the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law, the US Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect, the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect of the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Carnegie Corporation, the US Department of the Navy and several social science consulting firms on the topic of family violence. Dr. Gray is the author of approximately 26 scholarly publications including a book, Unequal Justice: The prosecution of Child Sexual Abuse. She has conducted practice-related research at two national child welfare organizations: the Center for the Child in New York and the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse in Chicago where she served as Director of Research and Deputy Director, respectively. She has taught internships in domestic violence services and worked with a battered women's shelter. She was most recently at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania as an Associate Professor of Sociology, Director of the Center for Applied Social Science Research, and Sexual Harassment Officer, counseling students who had been harassed, raped or assaulted. Returning to full-time clinical work, she is currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina, practicing independently in Cary and Durham. Her clinical interests include domestic violence, relationship problems, and adjustment problems of youth and adults in transition. She provides consultation to local organizations, gives expert testimony in family violence and child custody court cases, and serves as a Guardian ad Litem in child abuse cases.
