Introducing Kathy Schisler, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Kathy Schisler is a North Carolina Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She holds a Master’s degree in counseling psychology, with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy, from National University in San Diego, California. Her undergraduate education was obtained from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she received a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in family studies.
Kathy began her professional experience as a Child Development Counselor at San Diego Center for Children, a residential facility for children with severe emotional and behavioral disturbances. Using mainly behavioral modification techniques, Kathy worked with these children to help decrease high-risk behaviors, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, defiance, and increase overall self-esteem and daily living skills.
While pursuing her graduate degree, Kathy worked for First Avenue Counseling Centre, where she specialized in couple counseling, individual therapy with adults, anger management, and parental skills training.
For the past two years, Kathy has been providing in-home and office-based therapy to children and their families. During this time, she worked with a broad range of issues, including ADHD, defiance, depression, anxiety, bereavement, family separation, school violence, teenage pregnancy, adoption, legal involvement, as well as adjustment issues.
Kathy is currently accepting new clients in the following areas: individual (adult, adolescent, and child), couples, and family therapy.
