Marie Francis is a nationally certified counselor, licensed in North Carolina as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology with primary focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute in Encino, California. She received her undergraduate degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.
Marie began her working career in business administration functions in mega-corporate structures in academia, entertainment and aerospace industries. During that time, she began to study the organizational behavior of people at work seeking career fulfillment in a rapidly evolving workplace culture dominated by the common issues of productivity, performance, diversity and competitiveness. She became a frequent go-to person for employees experiencing workplace stressors. This led to her to accept her life assignment as a psychotherapist.
While pursuing her graduate degree, Marie worked in a community mental health agency in Glendale, California where she provided counseling to a high-risk population of children, adults and families with mental and emotional challenges such as mood disorders, anxiety, thought disorganization, self-injurious behaviors and learning challenges. These clients often had psychosocial stressors of poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse and issues related to immigration and acculturation.
Marie became fascinated by the multi-generational patterns of behavior and social interaction that impact the way people live, work and relate to each other as couples, parents, siblings, employees and community members. After completing her graduate studies, Marie established a private practice at Westminster Counseling Center in Pasadena, California where she enjoyed working with individuals, couples, families and children by meeting them at the door with whatever issues they brought. She was privileged to provide pre-marital counseling for couples associated with local churches. It was in this setting that she solidified and synchronized her academic graduate studies with her innate therapeutic intuition and instinct.
Since moving to North Carolina in late 2008, Marie has been providing community-based intensive in-home therapy and substance abuse counseling in a rural area of the state.
Marie enjoys working with couples, individuals and families to help enhance and maintain healthy relationships, manage life transitions, substance abuse and symptoms of depression, anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition, the combination of her corporate business background and her passion for psychotherapy enables her to provide career counseling, as well as practical, solution-focused therapy for clients struggling with workplace challenges.
Marie is currently accepting new clients at Cary Counseling Center.
